IT'S LIKE A NIGHTMARE ISN'T IT

You guessed it.  Run DMC's next release Crown Royal has reportedly been pushed back yet again.

This time the deadline is not longer even part of this millennium.  Current projects say it will appear near the end of January 2000.

The group's label, Arista, still has "Coming this Fall" on it's site, but from the looks of things I wouldn't hold your breath.

TRIBUTE ALBUM SET FOR THE KING'S OF ROCK

While not exactly the tribute album we might have been waiting for, Illstyle Records, Givin' Up Props: Tribute To Run-DMC, at least is a start.

Currently set to be released towards the end of November this album features many of the group's big hits and not so big hits redone by a collection of relatively unknown artists.

Stay tuned.

CHAT WITH THE CRASH CREW

Check out TWEC Thursday September 23 at 10:00pm EST to chat with the legendary Crash Crew.  They'll be talking about the early days of hip hop as well as their attempted comeback.

FLASH AND SUGARHILL ON VH-1

Grandmaster Flash and the Sugarhill Gang were featured on VH-1's popular series "Where are They Now?"

The show subtitled "The 80's" will no doubt air several more times so check it out.  Here Flash talk about life in the suburbs and his upcoming projects (including a new CD and movie on his life) and watch Sugarhill try and recapture some of the magic they had that got this whole thing started.

HIP HOP IN THE HALL OF FAME

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum sponsored a weekend conference, titled "Hip-Hop: A Cultural Expression,'' that centered on hip hop's integration into main stream America over the last twenty years.

On October 13, 1999 will mark the 20th anniversary of "Rapper's Delight".

Nearly 1000 people from performers to fans attended a meeting at Cleveland State University which featured speakers like KRS-One, Chuck D and Kool Herc.

Other conference topics included hip hop's influence on dance, graffiti and forms of political expression.

The Hall has had its share of critics for not giving enough attention to hip, however, this meeting was only a prelude the all hip hop exhibit that it will unveiling in November of this year.

A spokesperson for the Hall said, ``This is the most pervasive form of music in the world today and probably will remain that way for as long as any of us care to think about it."

We hope so.

RUN DMC RELEASE DATE

The biggest question surrounding this site is simply "When will Crown Royal, the new Run DMC album, be released.

First it was planned for this summer.  Then it was late August.  The Source magazine reports in this month's issue that it is actually coming out September 14.

So what is the actual date?

The group's label, Arista, has the words "Coming this Fall."  They do have a cool intro to their Run DMC section.

A quick search to a few other sources including Ice Magazine list the actual date as October 12, 1999.

Amazon.Com also lists October 12, and will actually let pre-order the disc right now.

That means that Crown Royal could be available in as little as 36 days.  Stay tuned for more updates.

RETURN OF THE FRESH FEST

After nearly 15 years of absence the Fresh Fest tour returns for a brief run over the next month.

Celebrating twenty years since "Rapper's Delight" hit the airwaves, The Sugarhill Gang,  Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Whodini, and last but not least, Run DMC will be together.

Unfortunately this tour is very limited so if any of you get a chance to see it, send in a review and we'll post it up.

REVIVAL OF THE TREACHEROUS THREE (SORT OF)

One of hip hop's most celebrated old school acts is getting a facelift.

Many reports have come recently regarding the revival of The Treacherous Three.  The group's line up will not be the same as it once was.  Special K and L.A. Sunshine have now been replaced by KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane alongside the almighty Kool Moe Dee (webmaster comment: the best old school mc ever).  Old School DJ Busy Bee will spin the records for the new trio.

This powerful line-up will record an album for Reprise Records.  Kool Moe Dee will also have a solo album out soon as well.

Keep an eye here for more details as they come out

SITE CHANGES NAME; GAINS AFFILIATION

Those of you who have visited the site before will notice the name change from To The Beat Y'all to OLDSCHOOLHIPHOP.COM.

In addition, the site is now part of AKA.COM: The Hip Hop Network.  Hopefully this new affiliation will bring more exposure to the site and help spread the knowledge of the forefathers of this global culture called Hip Hop.

RUN DMC AVAILABLE AGAIN

After several months of unavailability, Profile, under its new parent company Arista re-released Run DMC's collection in June.

No doubt this release was timed to help stir up excitement in the group's upcoming new release.

Notably missing from the re-release was the Greatest Hits collection.  Not surprisingly Arista will be releasing its own Greatest Hits compilation in conjunction with the new album later this year.

Be sure to check this site for further updates on the new Run DMC album.

GETTIN' FRESH WITH CHRIS ROCK

For those of you who caught the latest Chris Rock HBO special Bigger and Blacker, you were able to catch Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick perform together at the beginning of the show.

Slick Rick also performed at the end of the special.

(Editor's note: If you haven't picked up the new Slick Rick, check it out.  The new Doug Fresh collaboration is hot as are the live versions of "The Show" and "La-Di-Da-Di".
