DOUG E. FRESH APPEARANCE

Mr. Beatbox himself, Doug E. Fresh popped up at a Ghostface performance a few weeks back.

He helped move the crowd with a few songs from his upcoming release which includes a collaboration with Big Daddy Kane.

This site is currently awaiting information from Doug's camp on the release.

COLD CRUSH BROTHERS RETURN

Cold Crush is coming back.

As reported on this site a few months back, the legendary Cold Crush Brothers are about to return to the hip hop world.

Easy AD recently emailed this site with the following description of the new CD, "Cold Crush 2000":

"The CD is a variety of different songs produced, arranged,
and written by the members of the Cold Crush Brothers.  This
CD brings back the essence of hip hop, which is the Rhyming,
DJing and the MCing..."

He goes on to say that the first single on the CD is called "Resurrected" which features Chuck D of Public Enemy.

In other Cold Crush news, the group's line up will be slightly different.  Original member JDL will not be taking part in the reunion.  He is being replaced by a new MC named Money Ray.

Also, the Cold Crush site should be online by March 1.

ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME UPDATE

A few months back a feature was run on this site about the hip hop exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (still waiting for any pictures you all might have).

A recent visit to the Rock Hall site reveals that they have posted several pictures of items they have on display as well as some essays written by some different artists.

  • Hip-hop music journalist Kevin Powell has an essay entitles "A Hip Hop Story."
  • Grandmaster Caz has a very good essay called "The MC: Master of Ceremonies to Mic Controller" in which he gives an excellent overview of the meaning the title "MC."
  • DXT gets down to the history of the DJ in the essay "The Hip Hop DJ."
  • Jorge "Fabel" Pabon talks graffiti in the essay "Physical Graffiti."
  • TRUE 222 (Formerly known as Phase 2) follows that up with "Writing."

THE WEEKLY DOSE OF RUN DMC ANXIETY

Here's the latest.

Inquires to Arista were met with the following response: "Unfortunately there hasn't been any new information on the release for Crown Royal. As soon as there info comes in then we will post it
up on our site, and our weekly word."

Not exactly a wealth of info to be found there.

SOHH did post an article citing delays due to contractual problems with two of the many guest artists planned.

And finally, ICE Magazine has echoed what we've seen else where in showing the release for Crown Royal as March 7.

LATEST RUN DMC RELEASE INFO

Anyone with good information on this latest Crown Royal saga?

The latest dates are as follows:
Amazon.Com has the latest date as February 22.
ICE has it listed as February 8.
                    Billboard also has February 8.
Wall of Sound is still holding strong with January 25.

At this point we may just want to cross our fingers that the album, which will feature Method Man, Slick Rick, Nas, Aerosmith among others, gets released sometime before 2001.

KOOL HERC GETS A DEAL

After years of being the unrecorded legend Kool Herc, the founder of hip hop, has a deal.

KRS-ONE has taken advantage of his position at Warners/Reprise.  In addition to his signing of Kool Moe Dee, he has now signed the living legend Kool Herc.

With new stuff from Run DMC, Cold Crush and others, it looks like the old school isn't going anywhere.

RUN DMC COMMERCIALS

In case you haven't noticed Run DMC has been doing some publicity lately and it's not for the upcoming Crown Royal.

Some of you may have seen or heard the "Run D.O.C" ads that DOC Eyewear has been running.  While the group itself has only a few words to say their presence is felt by the annoying announcer's awkward use of hip hop terms.

Also many of you NBA fans may have seen the group on TBS NBA Monday.  They are helping to produce the music for the program.  The opening track appeared a few weeks ago.  In addition to the work on the actual show, they are also planning on doing some other promo spots throughout the season.

HIP HOP STAMP IS OFFICIAL

Could it be that hip hop is clawing its way higher into the annals of history?

The US Postal Service is off to a good start.  Here is the official hip hop stamp:
