ROCK STEADY CREW ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Twenty three years and counting...

The annual Rock Steady Anniversary celebration will take place the week of July 24th, 2000. The celebration, which includes two (2) concerts, the International B.boy Federation battle, a celebrity basketball game, and classes in popping and locking, amongst others, is expected to draw 15,000 attendees throughout the week from countries as far as Japan.

The free concert on July 29th and the concert on July 30th, at Pier 54 and The Manhattan Center, respectively, showcase an array of well-loved hip-hop artists and DJs. Among them are Doug E. Fresh, the Wu-Tang Clan's Gza, Gang Starr, Prodigy of Mobb Deep M.O.P., Rock Steady Tony Touch, and the 5th Platoon. "It's the closest you'll ever get to experiencing free hip-hop, the way hip-hop was when it first started in the parks. It's not just Rock Steady's anniversary, it¹s a reunion for people who have grown up on true hip-hop," says Crazy Legs President of the Rock Steady Crew.

TheFreshestKids.com will be doing an exclusive webcast of this year's Rock Steady Anniversary July 27-30, 2000.

Check out RockSteadyCrew.Com for all the detail information.

SUGARHILL GANG PLANS JULY 4TH APPEARANCE

Ever want to hear "Rapper's Delight" live?  Here's you chance.

From the men who brought the word "rap" and the sound of hip hop into the world spotlight, the Sugarhill Gang will be appearing live at the Fun Fourth Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina.

They have made several appearances over the last few years, including last year's tour with Grandmaster Melle Mel.

THE REVENGE OF GRANDMASTER CAZ

It's been over 20 years since "the incident".

After the blatant thievery of lyrics used by Big Bank Hank in the seminal song "Rapper's Delight", the original author of the rhyme, Grandmaster Caz, is returning to make things right.

Set to be released in the next few weeks, Caz's new single, "MC Delight", is his shot at payback for 20 years of misinformation.

More information regarding how you can get this new single will be forthcoming.

FURIOUS FIVE SUES WILL SMITH

The Furious Five get furious on the Fresh Prince.

The hip hop legends are looking to get paid for what they say is copyright infringement and unfair competition.

The groups claims that Will Smith and his co-defendant Bobby Robinson took sole writing credit Smith's song "Will2K" which included portions of the 1979 Furious Five classic "Superrappin".

Basically the group claims that the Smith and Robinson knew or should have known what they were selling and still continued to mislead the public as to the the group's role in the song.

The five are seeking various damages for the incident.

BEAT STREET RE-RELEASED ON VHS

An old school classic gets another chance.

Beat Street the film will be re-released this week.  Most likely there will be few additions to the original film, but for those of you who have written in or tried in vain to buy it on ebay.  This is your dream come true.

KURTIS BLOW'S "ECHO PARK" MAKES ITS DEBUT

So maybe you weren't around when Grandmaster Caz first spun records back in the day.  Here's your chance to see it today.

The first part of Kurtis Blow's hip hop history trilogy of shows, "Echo Park: The Hip Hop Musical", debuted last Thursday.

Caz opened the show by spinning records and hyping the crowd up.

This first installment, named after the legendary park in NYC, spans 1978 through 1981.

"Echo Park," which covers the years 1978–81, is the first part of a trilogy that will tell the story of hip-hop to the present day.

The show was complete with breakdancers, deejays, emcees, beatboxing, simulated parties in the park, cops breaking up the parties, and plenty of Adidas.

DJ Hollywood acts as a narrator as well as the main man Kurtis Blow as narrator and even performer.  He ended the night with "The Breaks."

"Echo Park" is scheduled to run through the beginning of July.  Look for the second installment to focus on the MC and run from 1982 through 1987.  The final installment deals with Hip Hop's takeover of the basically the entire world.

THE RETURN OF SPYDER-D

The man who brought us "Buckwheat Rap" is set to drop another album.

Of all the old school rappers, Spyder-D probably doesn't stand out on too many top 10 lists, but any time an old schooler becomes new again you have to take notice.

The new album, called "True Dat", will be available this week.  It is coming from Mecca Records and from the looks of it contains 18 new tracks.

Check it out here.

OFFICIAL HIP HOP HALL OF FAME KICKS OFF

It's been a long time coming but the Official Hip Hop Hall of Fame is beginning its road to reality.

Two weeks ago an official kick off party was held and attended by several legends including Kool Herc.  The future museum itself is still in the planning stages but you can contribute to the movement right now.

The Hall's web site does not feature any particular artists yet because it is not looking to promote any artists over another until after the first round of inductions.  Other areas are also still under construction, however, Steven Burns, an associate with the movement, says "The most important thing right now are the Public elections..."

Don't miss the chance to help shape the first inductions into the Hall of Fame.

Log on the site now and vote for yourself. http://www.ihiphophalloffame.com
