RUN DMC NEW RELEASE DATE

Could this really be official?

Reverend Run reportedly stated last week that the long delayed new Run DMC album Crown Royal will be hitting stores December 12, just in time for Christmas.

In additional news, they are working on a track with Jermaine Dupri as well as recording with Third Eye Blind.

Crown Royal has been delayed several times over the past year due to conflicts with other groups appearing on the album.

Arista has yet to respond to messages regarding the release, but the new date should be official soon.

NIGHTLINE TAKES ON HIP HOP

Beginning tonight, the popular mainstream news show "Nightline" will be featuring three different aspects of hip hop over the next few nights.

Tonight's first installment will profile Russell Simmons, DJ Run's brother and founder of Def Jam Records.

Thursday night's show will interview Def Jam President Lyor Cohen who will take a look at the relation of teens who listen to hip hop and their parents who seem oblivious to the global phenomenon.  Included in this will be a trip to a Jay Z concert.

Don't miss Friday night.  Grandmaster Flash will be interviewed to discuss the origins of the culture including his own role in its evolution.

Be sure to check out all three installments.

ROXANNE SHANTE RECORDS

Working as a criminal psychologist for New York State just wasn't exciting enough.

The female who opened many doors with her UTFO diss record has returned to the airwaves.

The British DJ and producer John Gosling, also known as Mekon had been asked to compile a wish list of potential collaborators for his second album for the label Wall of Sound. Having already called upon the talents of Schooly D for his first album, Gosling put Shante at the top of the list, remembering the thrill he had experienced when he first bought his copy of "Roxanne's Revenge".

After successfully tracking her down the two hooked up in a Manhattan studio and Shante free-styled a rap on the track Mekon had already written for her. You can hear the result on the single "What's Going On?," which also appears on the forthcoming album Relax With Mekon.

Maybe Shante's trip back to the studio will inspire her to record a new album on her own.

REVEREND RUN'S NEW BOOK

One of hip hop's legends enters the literary scene.

As was recently reported here, the other half of this legendary group, DMC is currently working on his solo album, but Reverend Run has his eyes on a different best seller list.

The book, entitled It's Like That: A Spiritual Memoir, offers some historical information on the group's formation and then moves into his own more personal pursuits including finding his path to God and becoming an MC of a different crowd.

It was just released this month and published by St. Martin's Press.

In other Run DMC news, the trio is apparently gearing up for a tour of Japan.  Further information on that to follow.

Send in your reviews and look for one to be posted here soon.

HEADLINES FOR JULY 25, 2000

DMC SOLO ALBUM TITLE

Who knows if we'll ever see Crown Royal hit the streets, but we may have another chance to hear from the King of Rock himself.

News is that the next old school project will be from DMC himself as a solo artist.  For those of you who watched the Run DMC Behind the Music from VH1, you got a bit of a sample of what was in DMC's future.

Don't expect a Run DMC type album either.  DMC has grown up and is going to be hitting on some different topics in the album currently titled Checks, Thugs, & Rock N' Roll.

BUSY BEE APPEARING WITH DE LA SOUL

The Chief Rocker returns.

Busy Bee will make his next appearance on wax on De La Soul's upcoming album Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump.

He will be on a song appropriately titled "Words From The Chief Rocker."

No word on what his exact involvement would will be, but let's hope he kicks a couple of verses.
