SUGAR HILL GANG WINS LAW SUIT

Old School Legends The Sugar Hill Gang were recently awarded nearly a million dollars in a victorious lawsuit.

The suit claimed that in 1999 Snapple Beverage and Turner Broadcasting used the groups image and vocals in nation wide commercials without the group's consent.  The spot, which included video footage of the group performing "Rapper's Delight" was intended for closed circuit use at Studio 54, but instead showed up on tv.

KOOL MO DEE WORKING ON NEW BOOK

First off, his name isn't a typo, he stopped using the "E" from "Moe".  Secondly, he's working on a new book entitled "The 100 Greatest Emcees".

The book is due out next year.  I'll keep you updated when I get any news about where to get your hands on it.

Speaking of top emcee lists, did you see the bullshit list from BET last month.  Here are where the old schoolers managed to fit in.

#48 Melle Mel
#41 Kool Mo Dee
#35 Run DMC (like they are the same person with the same skills???)
#24 Slick Rick

R.I.P BOOGIE BOY KID DELIGHT

This is an unfortunate thing to have to report, but I received this email from Yoda of the Crash Crew:

"Peace and Greetings to All. Yesterday the Hip Hop World lost another great and talented artist. William Stroman a.k.a Boogie Knight Kid Delight of The Boogie Boys passed on.

Delight a Hip Hop veteran was the original member of The Boogie Boys. He wrote and performed such Hip Hop classics as "Fly Girl", "Rappin' Aint A Thing", and "You Ain't Fresh" as well as others.

Recently he was working on his new material. He just completed a c.d featuring Reggie Reg La Bruja and Afrika Bambaataa.

Kid Delight will be greatly missed and this is a big loss to the Hip Hop community. As more info about services and everything else becomes available I will let everyone know. PEACE"

As a side note, I recently received a copy of his new material and we had talked several times about doing an interview for this site.  Unfortunately that interview never took place.

I'll get more information out as soon as it comes in.

RUN DMC HEADLINES ANTI-RACISM SHOW

Run DMC will be appearing for a good cause yet again at the Respect concert in Finsbury Park on July 21

Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, who is organizing the free event, said signing the band was a ``great coup for London.''

``By playing at Respect, Run DMC and the other performers are showing that racism remains a key issue and that racist attitudes and behavior must not be tolerated,'' the Mayor said in a statement on Wednesday.

``One in three Londoners is from a minority ethnic community. Yet racism is a poison that still blights and destroys lives across our city every day, whether through racist violence or the impact of discrimination.''

The one-day festival will feature R&B, pop and a variety of world music, as well as a range of family entertainment.

RUN DMC READY TO RECORD FOLLOW UP?

The word is out that Run DMC is headed back to the studio.

With Crown Royal turning out to be quite the commercial (and in most opinions critical) dud, Rev. Run stated last week that the group will be returning soon with a follow-up that will included more DMC and less outside guests.

Run said, "I think Run DMC will be back in the recording studio immediately.  Me and D are going to sit down and incorporate his style with mine and make an album with no collaboration.  Hopefully now, like today."

Run also stated he had a rough time getting used to DMC's new voice, but he's ready to get it going again.

They are continuing on their tour for the next few months.  We'll see what happens from then on.
