Reviews

Okay, first I gotta get this straight. This album was released two years after their most recent album at the time which was “Raising Hell“. The rap world at that time was changing quickly, so, by the time this record was released back in ’88, many hip hop heads said they weren’t up to date and that their style was old. Because of that, it didn’t sell as many copies as “Raising Hell”. I disagree with what those people said. I think this album is excellent.

The cd kicks off with “Run’s house”, a song that gives you a feeling that your at a live Run-D.M.C. concert. In my opinion it is one of the best songs on the album. My other favorites are “Mary, Mary”, “Radio Station”, “Tougher than Leather”, and “Beats to the Rhyme”.

On the tougher than leather album run-d.m.c sample themselves quite a bit, which, I thought, they pulled off good. One time listening to “they call us Run-D.M.C.” or “Beats to the Rhyme” and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

So, to sum it all up, regardless of what people said 12 years back, this album in my opinion is a good reminder of why Run DMC are respected the way they are today. Review submitted by Will
