Fatback was basically a funk band that recorded in the 1970’s and 80’s.

As far as this site is concerned, however, it is one track in particular that lands it a place on this site.

The track is called “King Tim III (Personality Jock)”.  It was released in 1979 and is considered by many to be the first hip hop song in history.

The song  was  released just before a certain other tune called “Rapper’s Delight“.

It appears on their 1979 album “XII”.

  1. I’m Tim Washington’s (AKA-King Tim III) brother and assist him with exploring further venues in his career choices. while browsing the internet I noticed that this website mentioned a possible interview with KTII, in the future. Not sure which interview you are referring to except for the interview done in 2006 along with Bill Curtis from Fatback.

If you really want a current interview with Tim, this is something he may be willing to explore. Please lets communicate and see if we can arrange.

  2. I call BS on the previous comment. Tim’s brother name was not Richard! I thought I handled this Internet faker in 1999 on Amazon. Nuff said!

  3. After a few calls around, I stand corrected. Richard is Tim’s brother. I knew him by another name when he was younger.
